People of Manipur Paying Price for PM Modi’s Insensitivity: Congress

Ukhrul, June 8: The Congress party on Sunday alleged that the people of Manipur are paying the price for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s neglect and insensitivity. The Congress statement comes after fresh violence erupted in Imphal on Saturday night following the reports of the arrest of Arambai Tenggol’s General Headquarters (GHQ) chief Kanan Singh.

Taking to X, the Congress party posted in Hindi claiming that despite the unrest in Manipur for more than two years in which more than 270 people have been killed, thousands injured and about 60,000 people displaced and forced to live in relief camps, the Prime Minister has neither appealed for peace nor shared the pain of the people of the strife-torn state.

In the X post, the Congress party alleged that the PM left the people of Manipur to fend for themselves.

The Congress posted, “Till date, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not visited Manipur, has not appealed for peace there and has not even shared the pain of the people suffering in pain. Whereas during this period PM Modi has made more than 250 domestic and more than 40 foreign visits. It is extremely shameful that Narendra Modi did not even meet any political representative or civil society group to establish peace in Manipur. He left the people of Manipur to fend for themselves. This insensitivity of the Prime Minister towards Manipur is extremely shocking. It is clear-Narendra Modi has been completely exposed and the people of Manipur are paying the price for his neglect and insensitivity.” (Google translation from Hindi).

The situation in Imphal became tense on Saturday night following reports of the arrest of the key leader of Arambai Tenggol. Large numbers of Arambai Tenggol members and its units protested demanding the release of the AT leader. As per reports, the protesters clashed with the security forces and incidents of arson were reported at several places. Multiple gunshots were reportedly heard in Imphal on Saturday night.
