Kamjong, June 22: A three-day training program on Bamboo Nursery Raising and Commercial Plantation was held from June 20 to June 22, 2024, at Kasom Khullen, Kamjong District, Manipur, concluded successfully. The event was organized by the Northeast Cane and Bamboo Development Centre (NECBDC) under the North Eastern Council (NEC) and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Government of India, in association with the ARDENT FOUNDATION (DSIR-SIRO).
The training aimed to promote bamboo plantations for commercial purposes and educate participants on the techniques of raising bamboo nurseries. Attendees in the three-day training program received comprehensive insights into the importance, uses, and varieties of bamboo, supplemented with practical demonstrations on various nursery-raising techniques.
The event featured distinguished guests, including Tamreiyo Longva, Manager of Administration at NECBDC, Dr. TC Bhuyan, a consultant at NECBDC, and Somipam Longleng, Manager of Livelihood and Natural Resources at UDCRMS Ukhrul, who helped explore on the topic ‘Bamboo and Orchid farming for sustainable livelihood’. Their presence and contribution enriched the training, highlighting the collaborative efforts to boost bamboo cultivation in the district.
Dr. Rimai Joy, Assistant Director ARDENT FOUNDATION (DSIR-SIRO) said refreshment were served in all the three-day training program that ended each day with group discussion and question and answer hour. He also said certificates were distributed to all the attendees.
The training provided it its practical sessions, hands-on experience in nursery management and bamboo cultivation techniques, essential for enhancing commercial bamboo production in Manipur, touching upon entrepreneurship, marking a steady step towards sustainable development and economic growth not only in Kamjong and Ukhrul Districts in Manipur, but in the Northeastern region.
