Imphal, June 25: CPI National Secretary Palap Sengupta has emphasized that the party maintains an unbiased stance in the ongoing ethnic conflict between the Meitei and Kuki communities, while firmly opposing any threats to Manipur’s territorial integrity. Sengupta made these remarks at Irawat Bhawan before his departure from Imphal.
Addressing the media, Sengupta criticized the central government for sidelining Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, noting that Singh was not invited to the recent high-level security review meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This, he argued, indicates the Centre’s lack of confidence in Singh’s leadership.
Sengupta stressed the landslide victory of the INDIA bloc candidates in the recent MP elections as a sign of the public’s growing distrust in the BJP. He pointed out that despite BJP’s prediction of securing 400 seats, the party had to rely on other parties’ votes to form the government.
Questioning both the Centre and the state governments on their plans to resolve the ongoing crisis, which has persisted for over a year, Sengupta announced that CPI candidates will contest independently in the upcoming Manipur Panchayati Raj Election.
The National Secretary’s visit to Imphal was part of his attendance at the State Council Meeting organized by the CPI Manipur State Council.
