Imphal: In response to escalating violence, including alleged missile attacks, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) declared an indefinite public emergency in the state with immediate effect.
The group has ordered all educational institutions to remain closed until the situation stabilizes. COCOMI cited the government’s failure to control the violence, which has severely impacted public safety. Protests are expected to intensify as the committee demands immediate action from both the central and state governments.

The state government in a separate order on Friday announced that all Government instructions, Aided colleges, private colleges shall remain closed on 7th September, 2025. “In view of the unrest and prevailing situation in the state and keeping in mind the safety of the students and teachers, all Government schools, Government Aided, Private and Central Schools of the state will stay closed on the 7th of September, 2024,” the government order said.

COCOMI on Friday staged a widespread human chain protest across Manipur denouncing the alleged inaction of both Central and State governments after drone bombings reportedly carried out by Kuki armed groups.
The protest saw participation from various groups, including Meira Paibis, civil society organizations, local clubs, legal practitioners and students in districts like Imphal, Bishnupur, and Jiribam. In Imphal City, human chains were formed at several places including Sagolband, Uripok, Khurai, Tiddim Road, Keishampat, and Thangmeiband.
