Ukhrul: Manipur Police said it raided a suspected hideout in Urup Mayai Leikai, Imphal East District, resulting in the arrest of four members of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) faction, SOREPA on Thursday.
According to Manipur Police, the raid was conducted in connection with an investigation into the recent abduction and assault of Joshua Kamei, a 23-year-old railway driver from Kambiron (Puiluan Village) in Noney District.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Hijam Nikhil Singh (27)
- Hijam Thanglen Meitei (30)
- Thongam Ningthem Singh (32)
- Gobin Elangbam (29)

During the operation, police said it recovered a Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), a .303 rifle, two Maruti Gypsy vehicles, and other incriminating items from the site. Additionally, two individuals identified as drug users, who were reportedly held in the custody of the suspects, were rescued. Further investigation is ongoing added Manipur Police.

The Rongmei Naga Students’ Organization Manipur (RNSOM) and Rongmei Naga Youths Organization Manipur (RNYOM) have vehemently condemned the kidnapping and brutal assault of the railway driver, Joshua Kamei from Noney district. The Naga civil bodies alleged that the Arambai Tenggol was responsible. RNSOM and RNYOM called on the Meitei/Meetei group to “cease violence Immediately,” terming them as an “extremists” group.
The Rongmei organization denounced the incident as a grave violation of human rights, describing it as an assault on the dignity and security of the Naga community.
