The RNPO statement then said, “It is also learnt from reliable sources that many transport vehicles and passenger vehicles travelling between Churachandpur and Kangpokpi have been passing through Noney district since the outbreak of violence (May 3, 2024)”. These vehicles have been reportedly carrying contraband items, alleged the RNPO. “Public suspicion and complaints have come to the notice of the RNPO office and its frontal organizations, and the number of drug users among the youth in the district have increased since then,” it added. “This unhealthy trend is affecting the Rongmei society etc. which also collaterally affects the socio-economic condition of many poor families in the district”, it further said.

Therefore, the RNPO urged both the government and all the concerned authorities to thoroughly check the 4 loaded trucks in the presence of the media, civil society representatives and concerned officials so that they can confirm and verify the suspected goods.
