Sniawbhalang Dhar on Shillong Airport Expansion: Land Acquisition Likely to be Completed by March 2025

Shillong, Dec 22: The process of acquisition of additional land for the expansion of the Shillong Airport is likely to be completed within March next year.

Informing this here today, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar said that 22 acres of additional land is required for the implementation of the airport expansion project and the process for this purpose is going in full swing.

His statement came after the Meghalaya High Court had recently passed an order directing the state government to complete the handing over of the additional land to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for expanding the Shillong Airport within a period of three months.

“In the meantime, there are few pockets, which belong to the defence and that also we will take a call after we convene a meeting in the new year,” Dhar said.

Asked, the deputy CM said, “We will try to complete the land acquisition process at the earliest possible. We will try to complete it within March, next year.”

He said that the government has already completed the survey and now beneficiary land owners are being identified.

“We have decided to do direct purchase. We have already convened a meeting from agriculture and horticulture to assess the vegetation (for the purpose of compensation),” Dhar added.
