Agartala, January 5: The Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2024 report has put the spotlight on Northeast India, recognizing Tripura as a “Fast Mover” in the region’s logistics growth story. The report identifies key achievements and areas for improvement, showcasing the Northeast’s growing contribution to India’s economy. Alongside Tripura, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have been named “Achievers,” while Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim join Tripura as “Fast Movers.” Manipur, categorized as an “Aspirer,” has been highlighted for its untapped potential in logistics development.

Tripura’s recognition as a Fast Mover reflects its significant improvements in logistics infrastructure and services. Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have emerged as leaders in implementing logistics reforms, setting a benchmark for other states in the region. The rise of Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim further emphasizes the collective advancement of the Northeast, while Manipur’s potential provides room for growth through targeted strategies.

A major focus of the LEADS 2024 report is on promoting green logistics, a vision closely aligned with the Northeast’s ecological priorities. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal urged states to embrace sustainable practices and adopt technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Tripura and other states can lead the charge in green logistics, leveraging their natural resources and strategic location.

Similarly, workforce inclusivity and skill development were emphasized, with the report urging states to increase women’s participation in the logistics sector and integrate skill-based programs tailored to regional needs. The PM GatiShakti Course launched by GatiShakti Vishwavidyalaya offers a promising avenue to equip state administrators and professionals with the expertise required for effective infrastructure planning.

Public-private Partnerships (PPP) have been highlighted as a vital tool for success. Tripura and Assam, among others, have the opportunity to use PPP models to establish logistics hubs, attract investments, and foster economic growth. Advanced technologies, coupled with digitization, could help overcome regional challenges, such as difficult terrain and limited connectivity.
As the Northeast strengthens its logistics capabilities, its role in India’s vision of becoming a $32 trillion economy by 2047 becomes increasingly significant. As Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim leading the way with fast mover advantage, the region is poised to emerge as a critical player in the country’s logistics and economic growth.
