Tangkhul Long USA holds inaugural Kazip in Texas, Elects new Executive Leadership

Ukhrul, January 5: The first Tangkhul Long USA Kazip was held in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, from December 30, 2024 to January 2, 2025 and elected its new executive leaders for the new tenure.

Purpose of the Gathering
This event was organized to cultivate a vibrant and united Tangkhul community in America while engaging and inspiring American-born Tangkhuls (ABT). The key objectives were:

1. Community Building: Strengthen connections and relationships among Tangkhuls across the USA.
2. Cultural Heritage: Reconnect with and celebrate our rich Tangkhul traditions and roots.
3. Unified Worship: Come together as a people of faith to glorify and worship God.

Vision
“To unite all Tangkhuls in America for the greater good of our people, advancing the cause of the Tangkhul community.”

Attendance and Census
According to a recent census, over 150 Tangkhuls live in the USA. 84 Tangkhuls from across the country participated in this historic first gathering.

Leadership and Contributions
The first executive team successfully concluded their term with the event’s success:
1. President: Lummi Kaping
2. Secretary: Margareth Valui
3. Treasurer: Masothing Zimik

Lummi and Margareth led the event, marking a significant milestone for the Tangkhul diaspora. Their leadership and dedication paved the way for a hopeful and bright future for the Tangkhul people in the USA.

Special recognition was extended to the Texas Tangkhul elders, including the Khamrang, Shokwungnao, Shaiza, Konghar, Hongchui, Shirik, and Kashung families, along with the seminary students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, for their invaluable contributions to the success of this event. “While we cannot mention everyone by name, please know that the Tangkhul community in America deeply appreciates your warmth and hospitality.

The new executive team has been elected to lead Tangkhul Long USA into a promising future:
1. President: Sochan Rumthao
2. Secretary: Joy Valui
3. Treasurer: Sirala Goldstein

The leadership structure includes two representatives from the East, Central, and West Zones, with one advisor from each zone to provide guidance and wisdom.

Despite the challenges, this gathering symbolizes a strong beginning and serves as a beacon of hope and unity for the Tangkhul community in America. Together, we look forward to advancing our shared goals and ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.

It is also worth mentioning that the Tangkhul community residing in different parts of America had contributed in different capacity under the initiative of Tangkhul Long USA on December 19, 2021, during the outbreak of Covid-19. The Tangkhul Long USA provided financial assistance to 55 affected families of Ukhrul and Kamjong Districts. The Tangkhul Long USA also gave Rs. 80,000 to All Tangkhul Medicos Association (ATMA), and Another Rs. 80,000 to COVID Care Centre Ukhrul and Rupees 25,000 to COVID Care Centre Kamjong. The organization has also utilized Rs. 1,70,344 for education grant and livelihood which was implemented by MNM foundation.
