Cachar Police Foil Drug Smuggling Attempt, Seize Yaba Tablets Worth over Rs. 7 Crore

Ukhrul, Feb 22: The Cachar Police intercepted a major trafficking attempt along the Assam-Manipur border, arresting one individual and seizing Yaba tablets valued at over Rs. 7 crore.

Acting on prior intelligence, law enforcement officials conducted a raid in Howkip Punji, Jirighat, leading to the arrest of Chungkang Leotang, a resident of Tamenglong district in Manipur. The operation took place on Saturday, February 22, when police successfully intercepted the smuggling attempt and seized a substantial quantity of the illicit narcotics.

Chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X and said, “Striking the drugs network, across every region of Assam. In a major breakthrough, @cacharpolice, under the jurisdiction of Jirighat Police Station, recovered: 24,000 Yaba tablets, Market value of 7.20 Crore…”

Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta was quoted saying to Barak Bulletin, “We had input from reliable sources regarding this drug shipment under the Jirighat Police Station in Howkip Punji, and we conducted a special operation. During the raid, we apprehended an individual from Manipur’s Tamenglong district and found a plastic bag containing 24,000 Yaba tablets.”
