4th Lieut Col (Late) Robert TA Memorial Football Tournament 2025 Concludes; Hills Academy Wins Title

Senapati, Feb 22: The 4th edition of the Late Lieut Col Robert TA Memorial Open Football Tournament, organized by Assam Rifles in association with the Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur, concluded successfully on February 22, 2025, after an engrossing and entertaining 18-day run that commenced on February 4, 2025.

Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Other dignitaries present at the grand finale included Director General of Assam Rifles, Lieut Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM; Inspector General of Assam Rifles (East), Maj Gen Suresh Bhambu, YSM, SM; and Brig Bikram Saini, YSM, SM, VSM, Commander, 22 Sector Assam Rifles. Also present was Chingpai Rangnamai, wife of the Late Lieut Col Robert TA and the driving force behind the tournament, whose presence added a heartfelt and poignant dimension to the event.

The highly anticipated final match between Hills United FC and Hills Academy FC delivered an electrifying contest, showcasing the exceptional skills and determination of both teams in their quest for the coveted trophy. In a nail-biting encounter, Hills Academy FC emerged victorious, lifting the championship trophy with a 3-2 scoreline.

As part of their Civil Action Programme, Assam Rifles, the tournament organizers, also sponsored prizes in various categories, recognizing both individual and team performances. Chingpai Rangnamai, wife of Lieut Col (Late) Robert TA, presented the awards after the final match.

The four quarter-finalist teams received a cash prize of Rs 15,000/- each, while the semi-finalists were awarded Rs 30,000/- each.

Individual prizes included: Best Goalkeeper – Mustakin of Hills United FC; Highest Goal Scorer (9 goals) – John of Asufii U-17 FC; Best Player of the Tournament – George.

Each individual awardee received Rs 10,000/- along with a mountain bike.

The runners-up, Hills United FC, were awarded a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh, while the champions, Hills Academy FC, received a grand prize of Rs 3 lakh.

The 4th edition of the Lieut Col (Late) Robert TA Memorial Open Football Tournament has been a resounding success. Assam Rifles expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the Senapati community and their tireless efforts in making the event possible. The tournament stands as a fitting tribute to the memory of Lieut Col Robert TA and his passion for football.
