Ukhrul, Feb 28: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) and the Naga Women’s Union have condemned the incident that happened on 22nd February, 2025 in Senapati district where the Assam Rifles were allegedly caught “escorting Kuki militants” by the Senapati District Students Association.
ANSAM stated that it is perturbed to come across the nefarious activities of the Assam Rifles working hand-in-glove with the ethnic militants in the state on 22nd February, 2025 in Senapati district. Astounded to witness such fishy and provocative scenes displayed by the state security forces and one ethnic armed group personnel in the public square during the wee hours, it stated that the incident had aroused doubts, thereby developing fear Psychosis to the locals in the district. It further stated that showcasing such bonhomie amongst the Kuki militants and the Indian security forces like the Assam Rifles in the town raised eyebrows and questioned the motive behind such acts.

The Association also took strong exception and discouraged any organisation from randomly tagging the names of Naga leaders in their statement, where they were completely unrelated. For the record, the Naga leader’s entourage had never been guarded by the Indian army unlike the Kuki militants moving under the skirt of the Assam Rifles, the release stated.
To maintain peace in the region, ANSAM appealed to all concerned stakeholders in the state, including security forces, to maintain restraint and mutual respect, taking into consideration the sentiments and positions of each community.

Joining in the condemnation, the Naga Women’s Union stated that the incident near Lairouching in Senapati district was against the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, 1967 (UAPA), the act which was reaffirmed on 24 March 2023. Also, it added that the activities defy the guidelines of the Supreme Court and Ministry of Defence (MoD) to be strictly followed by security personnel.
“The intimation and clandestine meeting at midnight between the Assam Rifles, the national security guardians, and UPF (Kuki militant group) is unlawful. The act of carrying the insurgency group in the Assam Rifles vehicle is non-adherence to the guidelines. And, the misuse of uniforms is a crime and it smirks the reputation of the military institution,” the union said.
Therefore, whether commissioned or non-commissioned officers who were involved in such unlawful activities, an appropriate sanction should be imposed strictly according to their offence, the NWU stated. It added that such unlawful activities needed top-level inquiry and unearthed the reason for the act committed by the competent authority.
The union then appealed to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to look into it for national security.
