Ukhrul District Hospital Covid Isolation Ward gets 6 new ventilators

Installation and repair of six ventilators has been completed and now the machines have been made fully functional.

The Covid-19 isolation ward of Ukhrul District Hospital (UDH) finally got the much-needed ventilators which would become fully functional from 27 October onwards, according to an official source from the hospital.

Installation and repair of six ventilators have been completed and now the machines have been made fully functional, it added.

“Following this, a demonstration on the use of the machines was also conducted on Monday. And by tomorrow evening (Tuesday) the Covid-19 Isolation Ward here equipped with ventilator machines will become fully functional,” the source said.

It is learnt the isolation ward having a capacity of 16 beds have been waiting for basic necessary equipment like ventilators and oxygen concentrators for months. 

Though the equipment were provided some weeks back, technical glitches had belated installation works, it said.

“Earlier on 8 October, a team of service engineers came to install the equipment but they went back as certain technical faults cropped up in some of the machines and UPS system,” it informed.

Meanwhile, the hospital authority has drawn the attention of the state government towards providing more number of staff nurses in the lone government-run hospital of the district.

“With a limited manpower, we are managing to function 24×7 taking care of all the departments day and night with much difficulty and hardships,” it stated, while adding that presently  there are only 15 number of Staff Nurses and 1 Nursing Superintendent though the actual number of sanctioned posts for district hospital is 33 as per MGEL.
