Celebrating the Universal Children’s Day 2020 at Manipur Press Club, Imphal on Friday, the Manipur government reaffirmed its commitment to seriously protect and promote child rights in the state. Manipur minister for Social Welfare, Henry Okram, as the chief guest of the function, said, “We need a collective effort to promote and protect the child rights in the state”. The minister appealed to the concerned officials to conduct regular inspections and assess the conditions of children and shelter homes etc. of the State.
According to the minister, that there is a need for mass awareness and advocacy campaigns about child rights across the State. The minister further said that all the stakeholders including the officials of the department should work together for the welfare of the children with dedication at the grassroots level. “We all need to ensure that those children who are residing at Children homes, shelter homes etc. being run by various NGOs are provided better care and protect their due rights”, he added.
Chairperson of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights Phurailatpam Manibabu Sharma, Director Social Welfare Ng. Uttam, Legal experts, officials of various departments and others were present during the function.
The celebration is organized by Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights, State Child Protection Society and Child Protection for Services Scheme, Ministry of Women and Child development, Government of India, Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur.
