Manipur Govt doctors directed to station at their posting places in view of COVID-19 pandemic

The Manipur government on Monday directed government doctors to station at their respective places of posting and discharge their duties in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

An order regarding the matter was issued by Manipur principal secretary (Health), V Vulhungmang. The order also directed the state Health department to ensure doctors discharge their duties properly in their respective places of posting. The order further reminded ban ‘private practice’ by government doctors and asked the Health department to look into the matter. Private hospitals should also not hire the government doctors for practicing in their hospitals.

To ensure that no government doctors are engaged in the private hospitals, the officials of the Health department should conduct surprise inspections in the private hospitals.
The principal secretary further asked the the Health department to submit the first detailed report of the implementation of the order by December 2.

The order further directed authorities of RIMS hospital and JNIMS hospital to ensure doctors discharge their duties regularly. They (doctors) should not be allowed private practicing.

Doctors on duty at the Covid care facilities in these two biggest hospitals in the state should be advised to discharge their duties properly in treating COVID-19 patients.

Meanwhile, in view of the surging cases of COVID-19 related deaths in Manipur, the state government has taken up necessary steps to increase the number of beds for COVID-19 patients in government hospitals, said  MLA Dr Sapam Ranjan who is the Advisor (Health and Family Welfare) to Manipur chief minister.

Speaking during a review meeting of the National Health Mission Manipur on Monday held at the conference hall of Hotel Nirmala, Imphal, he said that the state government is considering to increase the number of beds for the COVID-19 patients in the state in view of surge in number of people exposed to the COVID-19 in the state.

Prior to today’s review meeting, the MLA said that he along with officials of the Health department conducted a field visit to hospitals where more beds for COVID-19 patients can be installed.

He will consult with the chief minister who is also minister in-charge of the Health department to take up the works for installation of more beds at the earliest.
