A villager in Kangpokpi dist shot dead by 44 AR Major, Public storms AR Camp

An individual who was severely injured after allegedly shot at by personnel of Assam Rifles in a reported gunshot in Chalwa bazaar under Kangpokpi district succumbed to his injuries after few hours of the shooting. The deceased has been identified as one Pu Mangboilal of Chalwa village.

According to sources, Pu Mangboilal was grievously injured when a team of 44 Assam Rifles COB posted at Gelnel village who were reportedly on a Rope Opening Party (ROP) open fired at Pu Mangboilal on Friday. Chalwa village is located at the interior part of Kangpokpi district along Imphal – Tamei road.

Angered by the incident, public from Chalwa village and surrounding villages stormed AR camp.

It is reported that the victim before breathing his last reportedly identified the shooter as one Major Alok of 44 Assam Rifles who came in civilian cloth armed with four other.

Tension ran high at 44 Assam Rifles outpost where the Major Alok was stationed. Kangpokpi district police were initially hesitant in arresting the accused Major. However the accused was handed over to Kangpokpi police. Further details awaited.
