A police team on a mission to nab drug peddlers was attacked with stones in Manipur’s Imphal East district on Monday.
Residents of Khergao Sabal Leikai pelted stones at the police personnel who were leaving the locality with three alleged drug peddlers including a woman nabbed during a search operation in the locality on Monday morning. Two police personnel were reportedly hit by stones.
Later, the police handed the three alleged drug peddlers over to Porompat police station along with the illegal drugs recovered during the operation.
Some quantity of heroin powder, WY tablets, N-10 capsules and small plastic containers were recovered during the operation launched by a combined team of police commandos, Narcotic Cell of Imphal East district police and women personnel of the district police. The team conducted the search operation after cordoning off as many as seven houses of the locality.
The alleged woman drug peddler was apprehended after a brief chase by women police personnel who were involved in the operation as she tried to run away from the back door of her house with some quantity of WY tablet, police said.
Talking to reporters at the spot, Imphal East additional SP (Ops) Ronnie Mayengbam said that today’s operation was launched as a part of the state police’s campaign against drugs after the state government declared war on drugs.
