Shillong: Former Tura MP Agatha K. Sangma officially took charge as the chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) and expressed her commitment to enhancing child safety across the state. Sangma, who met with the previous chairperson and SCPCR staff, commended the commission’s past work and vowed to contribute positively to its initiatives.

Addressing a rise in crimes against children, Sangma emphasized the need for stronger community engagement to create a safer environment for children. She noted the increased reporting of cases due to growing awareness and urged families, schools, and communities to collaborate on this issue.
Additionally, she highlighted the delays in fast-tracking POCSO cases nationwide, pointing out the need for coordination with the social welfare ministry to expedite justice for child victims.
