Shillong, April 24: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will soon convene a committee meeting to examine the demand for ‘winter capital’ in Tura.

“Regarding the demand for ‘winter capital’ in Tura, the government has already constituted a committee headed by the chief minister, and very shortly the committee will be meeting the stakeholders,” PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak informed on Thursday.

As per government notification, the terms of reference will be to study and examine the feasibility of setting up a winter capital at Tura and examine the advantages and disadvantages of having two state capitals based on the demands by various NGOs, civil societies, etc.”

It said that the committee will seek the views of all stakeholders concerned and submit a report to the state government.
