CHANDEL, SEP 24: A District Kisan Mela/Agriculture Fair 2026-27 held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Mini Secretariat in Chandel has called for Natural Farming among farmers of the district.
Organised by Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in collaboration with District Agricultural Officer (DAO), Chandel, the mela on Natural Farming called on the farmers and encouraged them to practice natural farming without chemical fertilizers.
Addressing the mela as chief guest, Mamoni Doley IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel said the Horticulture and Agriculture Departments of the district have the technology and the expertise to help farmers in their cultivation.
The DC also said that the departments have various schemes to help farmers in terms of knowledge on how to cultivate, what to cultivate, about high-yielding seeds, etc.
She also called on all the farmers to approach the departments if they need any help with technology or expertise as the people in the department are well-trained in their fields.
Khagokpam Sundeep Singh, District Officer, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Chandel and Sp. Lovejoy Anal, District Agriculture Officer, Chandel / Tengnoupal, who attended the agriculture fair as the guest of honour and president, also spoke on natural farming and how it can help farmers in the long term.
They said the extreme use of chemical fertilizers were bad for soil as it helps in deterioration of the soil quality which affects cultivation in the long term.
As part of the mela, agriculture and farming related inputs and materials were also distributed by the Deputy Commissioner. This include Pump sets under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) to 15 beneficiaries; Sprayers (Manual) to 10 beneficiaries; Battery to four beneficiaries under Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM); Micronutrients to 15 beneficiaries; Pulses under National Food Security and Nutrition Mission-pulses (NFSNM) to 38 beneficiaries and Soyabean National Food Security and Nutrition Mission-Oilseeds (NFSNM) to 10 beneficiaries.

Earlier, the DC also inspected the stalls, namely Rampar Organic Farmer Company Ltd (FPO); Farmer Interest Group, Riverlane; Farmer Interest Group, Lamphoupasna; United Chandel Co-Op Ltd (FPO); Natural Farming Chandel; O/O District Officer (H&Sc), Chandel; Progressive Farmer, Horticulture; Self Help Group, Lambung; Farmer Interest Group, Khunbi; AATMANIRBHARTA in Pulses (Pulse Mission) and PMKSY (DAO, Chandel), opened at the mela and interacted with the farmers and concerned persons.
Later, the stalls were opened to the farmers and the public for sales.
Moreover, the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, 2026, marking 25 years of public service by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also observed.
