Meghalaya: All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader and former Meghalaya chief minister, Mukul Sangma today said the party will leave it to the Assembly Speaker to decide on the petition seeking the disqualification of the 12 MLAs.

“We will leave it to the office of the Speaker and will not presume or assume anything,” Sangma told reporters.

The 12 MLAs have already submitted before the Speaker their responses to the petition filed by the Congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh seeking their disqualification as per the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.

Mukul Sangma however said that the relevant provisions of the Constitution and expected interpretations of the relevant provisions of the Tenth Schedule of Constitution of India will ultimately determine how the overall expected ruling will be.

“The whole exercise has been done in a manner which is inconsistent with the mandate of the relevant provisions of the Constitution. We do not doubt or we do not foresee or anticipate anything contrary to what we expect,” he added.

The former chief minister said that the conscious decision taken by the 12 MLAs was taken after a long drawn exercise and due diligence.

“Therefore whatever we are doing is with complete clarity and without any iota of doubt or confusion so we know what we are doing and what we are doing is completely because our priority still remain towards our responsibility on protecting the interests of the people, the state and enabling people to realize their dreams and aspirations base on the kind of faith and confident that they have upon us,” he added.
