Ukhrul, May 5: Mizoram became the fourth Northeastern state to link its capital, Aizawl, to the national railway network with the completion of the Bhairabi-Sairang railway line.

The first trial run to Sairang, near Aizawl, was successfully conducted on May 1, 2025, marking a major milestone.

Ministry of Railway announced on May 3 stating, “Aizawl is set to become the 4th northeastern capital to be connected to the Rail Map as Indian Railways completes its maiden trial run to Sairang, Aizawl, enhancing connectivity and unlocking new avenues for progress of Mizoram.”

“First BG train to Aizawl (Sairang). Successful trial run in Bairabi – Sairang section,” wrote Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The Bhairabi–Sairang railway line, spanning 51.38 km, is being developed by the Northeast Frontier Railway. Sanctioned in the 2008–2009 financial year, the project connects Bhairabi, located near the Assam border, to Sairang, a town just 21 km from Mizoram’s capital, Aizawl. The project is expected to be operational by July 2025.
