Ukhrul, June 16: Aliawati Longkumer, a 2008 batch Indian Foreign Service officer from Nagaland, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea). Longkumer, who is currently the Charge d’affaires a.i. The Embassy of India, Asuncion, Paraguay, expected to take up the assignment in Pyongyang, the capital city of North Korea, shortly, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement on Monday.

“Aliawati Longkumer (YOA : 2008), presently Charge d’affaires a.i. Embassy of India, Asuncion, Paraguay, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Democratic People’s Republic of Korea . He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.” the MEA statement read.
Atul Malhari Gotsurve was the last Ambassador of India to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, before the Indian embassy in Pyongyang was shut down in July 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Indian embassy in Pyongyang was reopened in December 2024.
