Imphal: The All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) on Monday elected its new office bearers for 2023-2025 tenure. Associate editor of Poknapham Daily Bijoy Kakchingtabam was elected as new president of AMWJU.

The journalists’ union held the election for the new office bearers right after its annual general body meeting held at Manipur Press Club in Imphal yesterday.

Bijoy Kakchingtabam defeated former president Wangkhemcha Shamjai to become the new president of AMWJU.

Impact News’ editor Raj Nongthombam was also elected as a member of AMWJU standing committee.

He secured 247 votes, the highest number of votes in the election. 10 candidates competed for the post of members of standing committee.

Seven other candidates from various media outlets were also elected as members of the standing committee namely, Athokpam Jiten of The Sangai Express, S. Sonia of Poknapham Daily, Moirangthem Khagemba of Sanaleibak Daily, B. Sanjoy of Eikhoigi Panthung Chephong, Priyo Achom of the Morning Bell, Khagokpam Nabakumar of TOM TV and Ng. Sanjoy of ISTV.

The newly elected office bearers will take oath of office and secrecy at the earliest.
