All-women market (Ima Keithel) Imphal shut for 10 days

The three markets along with its adjoining markets were re-opened on February 16 after remaining closed for almost 11 months after the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020.

Recently re-opened three Ima Keithel (all women-run markets) in the heart of Imphal were once again closed down by an order of the state government issued on Wednesday.

It can be mentioned here that the three markets along with its adjoining markets were re-opened on February 16 after remaining closed for almost 11 months after the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in March last year (2020).

As per the government order issued by chief secretary in-charge, MH Khan on Wednesday, the three Ima Keithel and adjoining temporary markets will remain closed for 10 days. The step was taken up in view of the sudden spikes of the COVID-19 cases in the state, the order added.

The order to close the markets came after the state government ordered imposition of night curfew, restriction of gatherings, rostered opening of shops in Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar issued on April 18 last.
