Anal Lenruwl Tangpi Chakpikarong Urges Ban on Tenders for Defaulting Contractors

Published on

Chandel, August 4: The Anal Lenruwl Tangpi (ALT), Chakpikarong Branch has appealed to the Government of Manipur and concerned departments, particularly the Public Works Department (PWD) Chandel Division and the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), to stop awarding new tenders to contractors who have failed to complete previous projects in Chakpikarong Sub-Division.

ALT stated that despite sanctioned budgets and repeated assurances, key infrastructure projects remain incomplete, delayed, or abandoned. Completed sections are reportedly of poor quality with no maintenance, severely affecting the lives of residents.

Highlighted road projects include the Serou Lamkhai–Salluk route via Chakpikarong, L026 Chakpikarong to Challong Lamkhai (Part I & II), L024 Chakpikarong to Thorcham, and MN0253 Chakpikarong to Thorcham (Part II). The construction of the Chakpikarong Health Centre has also been stalled.

The group called the Jal Jeevan Mission a “total failure” in the sub-division. While official reports claim 90% completion, ALT’s verification found that not a single household has a working tap connection. They demanded a transparent audit of funds. Construction of the Tribal Girls Hostel under the Ministry of Backward Classes also remains incomplete.

A spokesperson stated that poor construction, lack of transparency, and negligence have severely impacted mobility, livelihoods, and public health in the region. ALT issued five demands: blacklist defaulting contractors, halt new tenders to defaulters, disclose full project and expenditure details, fix accountability, and expedite the construction of the Kendriya Vidyalaya and Health Centre.

The organisation warned that if their demands are ignored, they are prepared to launch democratic actions including RTI filings, legal steps, and peaceful protests.
