Imphal, Feb 26:  The All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) in a memorandum submitted to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday has urged for extension of the timeline for securing the illegal arms followed by confidence building measures.

“Humbly and most respectfully, the All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) submits this humble memorandum for kind perusal and prompt action,” read the memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.

“At the outset, AMBA sincerely welcomes the step taken up by the Governor to secure the illegal arms circulating in the state of Manipur by giving a timeline”, it said, adding that it is AMBA’s firm belief that this is the initial step to restore normalcy.

“However, we condemn the action of the security forces against the khun ngakpa or ‘village volunteers’ before the expiry of the timeline as it may sabotage the peace initiative of His Excellency,” the lawyers’ body further said in the memorandum to the Governor.

Such action may sow the seeds of suspicion and distrust on the government’s sincerity to restore normalcy, the memorandum mentioned, adding that it is also likely to lead to further unrest in the state, and such actions of the security forces need to be restrained.

“The situation of the state needs to be handled with love and affection towards the people of the state regardless of community”, the memorandum underscored.
