AMCO appeal Govt to review eviction orders to 8 Churches in Imphal

The All Manipur Christian Organization (AMCO) appeal government to review the Show Cause Notice / eviction order served to the 8-Churches in Tribal Colony, New Checkon Imphal.

The AMCO press release stated that 8 (eight) Churches in Tribal Colony, New Checkon had received Notice of Show Cause dated 24 Dec. 2020 from Sub- Divisional Office Porompat, on 26 December, 2020 for eviction which was during one of the most important Christianity religion’s observation to Christmas and New Year.

AMCO also stated that most of the churches at Tribal Colony, New Checkon had been constructed since 1974 which was prior to the Supreme Court Guideline/ Direction (with cutoff date as 29-09-2009) for regularization of existing unauthorized construction in the name of Temple, Church, Mosque or Gurudwara etc. at public parks or other public places.

It further stated that residential Quarter for Tribal Govt. servants’ was constructed exclusively for the Tribal Govt. servants’ / employee of Manipur vide Manipur Gazette No.94 dated 14-12-1960 with Secretariat Revenue No. 141/13/60-M dated 08-12-1960 and by the necessity of practicing faith of Christianity, the occupant of the aforesaid Quarters had constructed the Churches.

The Christian apex body appeal Manipur Government to review the Show Cause Notice and provide sufficient opportunity to hear the Cause of 8 (eight) Churches as per the said guidelines of Supreme Court.
