Delhi, March 1: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi today to review the security situation in Manipur, marking the first such discussion since the state came under President’s Rule. The meeting was attended by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Secretary PK Singh, top officials from the state and Union Home Ministry, and senior paramilitary officers.
Governor Bhalla had left Imphal for Delhi on February 27, with other key officials also traveling to the capital in advance. According to sources, the meeting assessed the security situation in Manipur amid ongoing violence for over 21 months and discussed measures to stabilize the state.

During the meeting, Amit Shah emphasised that the Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remains fully committed to restoring lasting peace in Manipur. He assured that all necessary assistance is being provided to achieve this goal.
According to PIB said that Amit Shah issued several directives to address the ongoing challenges in Manipur. He directed that free movement be ensured for people on all roads in Manipur from March 8, 2025. He also instructed strict action should continue to be taken in all cases of extortion.
On border security, Shah emphasized the need to complete fencing work on both sides of the designated entry points along Manipur’s international border at the earliest.

Further, to combat the drug trade, the Home Minister directed that the entire network involved in the drug trade be dismantled.
The meeting saw the participation of several high-ranking officials, including Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Union Home Secretary Director, Intelligence Bureau Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Army Commander of the Eastern Command, Directors General of Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Assam Rifles, Security Advisor, Manipur, Senior officers of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Army, and Manipur administration.
