Angami Students’ Union 31st Biennial General Conference Concludes at the historic Khonoma village

Khonoma, April 6: The 31st Biennial General Conference 2025 of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) officially came to a close today at the historic Khonoma Village.

The event, which brought together students from 83 villages of Angami, leaders, elders, and well-wishers from across the Angami region and beyond.

Medo Yhokha, former ASU President, former MLA, and Advisor to the Government of Nagaland, addressed the gathering as the special guest.

In his speech, Yhokha reflected on his personal journey with ASU, dating back to 2005, and credited the organization as an important foundation in his leadership journey.

He urged the youth to remain steadfast in their responsibilities as future leaders, stressing the need for discipline, unity, and cultural rootedness, while embracing personal and academic growth.

“Today, education and infrastructure are at our doorstep,” Yhokha stated. “Without qualification, we cannot move forward. Complacency must be replaced by a strong work ethic and a change in outlook.”
On the economic front, he offered a candid analysis of Kohima’s economy, which he described as being heavily reliant on salaries and house rent.

He urged young people to explore business and entrepreneurial ventures, stating, “We often talk about outsiders controlling our economy, but who is to be blamed? It’s time to take responsibility and start creating change.”

Citing the phrase “ara kezevi,” Yhokha emphasized the critical need to protect land and natural resources, cautioning that owning assets without preservation would be disastrous.

He highlighted issues such as unchecked development, and environmental degradation, and called for a balanced approach to growth.

He also spoke on the upcoming Zubza railway line, outlining both its potential economic impact and its environmental implications. “We must prepare for the changes this development will bring socially, economically, and environmentally.”

Concluding his address, Yhokha encouraged students to stay connected with God, emphasizing spiritual grounding as vital to leadership and life.

He extended his congratulations to the newly elected ASU team led by Dievizekho Nakhro, expressing hope in their commitment and vision for the future of the student community.

Kezhazer Angami announced the new team of ASU tenure 2025-27 led by Diezevisie Nakhro as its president.

The session was led by Vizosienuo Shüya, Secretary of Women Affairs, ASU, who coordinated the flow of the program with poise. Pelevisie Vüprü, Pastor of Living God Ministry Prayer Center, Khonoma, invoking blessings for the success of the youth and the journey ahead for ASU. Kethonuo Sekhose rendered a touching special song.

Zhasakholie Kehie, Speaker of ASU, delivered the vote of thanks.
