Kamjong: The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) Eastern Flank, Naga Army on June 16, wrote a letter to the family of Captain R.S. Winson from Ngainga Village, Ukhrul District, who was killed in action while fighting Kuki National Army (Burma).

The Naga Army’s letter addressed to the family stated, “Your son, R.S. Winson, was unfortunately killed in battlefield on June 15, 2024, at Angko Ching Range jungle by the Kuki National Army (Burma). Your son, as the commander, fought and engaged with the KNA (B) at 6:30 pm and died on the spot.”

The letter written by Lieutenant General A. Raman, MC, Deputy Longvibu stated that “Captain R.S. Winson was a brave, loyal and dutiful soldier.” It further remarked that the Naga Army will remember the ultimate sacrifice made by Captain R.S. Winson for the Naga nation and its movement.

The letter, which has gone viral, alleged that the Indian Security Force, in alliance with KNA (B), is mustering its forces to eliminate the Naga movement in Eastern Nagalim, present-day Myanmar. The Naga Army stated that it will defend against these efforts.

It is worth noting that the NSCN-IM in February 2024 had accused the Kuki National Army (Burma) of killing Honpam Chithung on February 10, 2024, in Myanmar. In a statement, the NSCN-IM warned, “Repeated messages given to the Kuki-Zo people should not be treated casually.”

The NSCN-IM had further stated, “This particular incident [killing of Honpam Chithung] has deeply affected the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) and the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN). The people’s government has taken strong exception to the actions of the KNA(B) and the Kuki villages near the border, such as Mawailuk, Aishi, and Phaikoh. This kind of senseless warmongering is an affront to the dignity and honor of the Nagas.”

In another such incident, in May 2024, Naga Army alleged torture and killing of a Naga soldier by Kuki National Army (B). Lieutenant General Wungyip-MM, Adjutant General of the Naga Army, reported that Sentilong Jamir of Mokokchung, Nagaland state, was captured by KNA (B) forces on May 11, 2024, while performing routine duty at the Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong district, Manipur. According to the statement, Jamir was subsequently tortured to death on May 13, 2024, in Myothit.

According to CAO of the NSCN’s Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR), KNA (B) has killed four Naga Army soldiers to date.
