Apex Civil Bodies of Chandel Boycott Go To Hills 2.0

The apex civil bodies of Chandel, Naga Students’ Union, Chandel (NSUC) a conglomerate of tribal student bodies of Chandel district, and civil societies of the district such as Chandel Naga People’s Organisation (CNPO), Naga Women Union Chandel (NWUC) and NCAC has unanimously discouraged the “Go to Hills 2.0” program initiated by government of Manipur and have announced boycott of same.

The non-cooperation declared under its jurisdiction was announced in a joint statement on Monday against the backdrop of non-tabling of the HAC proposed Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Councils Bill 2021 and an Order issued to include 9 (nine) Valley MLAs into the HAC by the speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly order No.5/11(2)/2021 – LA (Secy.) on September 1.


The statement issued Monday said, “The government of Manipur has been undermining and manipulating the sentiments and aspirations of the Tribals populace due to our simplicity nature. Time and again, we the Tribals has been downtrodden and illtreated by the government of Manipur (GoM).”

The apex civil bodies of Chandel declared non-cooperation and boycott “Go to Hills 2.0” program until and unless the HAC Bill 2021 is consider and inclusion of 9 valley MLAs into the HAC is rescinded, it added.

It furthermore, instructed the general public and the people of Chandel not to attend or be
part of the program organised by GoM, and added, any Civil Organisation extending support and cooperation of the “Go to Hills 2.0” shall be strictly dealt with.
