AR rescues 51 civilians and thwarted rumors in Jiribam district

Imphal, May 5: The 39 Assam Rifles, Srikona Battalion in a press release Friday said information was received by them at Jiribam about likely movement of armed people in a truck towards Jiribam town.

AR said that the internal security columns immediately acted upon receiving the intel. “A suspected truck was stopped at Jiribam-Tamenglong border in which 51 non-locals were found hiding,” AR said.

“It was found that civilians who are daily wage labourers and residents of Assam who were working in Manipur were trying to escape the tense security situation. All innocent civilians were rescued safely to Cachar by Assam Rifles troops,” the press release added.

The Assam Rifles further pointed out, with the quick action taken, Agartala Sector Assam Rifles doused the false rumour and rescued civilians and affirmed that the forces are proactively maintaining the peace and harmony, and are taking all steps to prevent false rumours in Jiribam district.

The Srikona Battalion furthermore warned in view of the prevailing tense situation in Manipur, false rumours are rife which are fueling the insecurity among populace.
