Army apprehends 3 persons with sophisticated arms and ammunition in Imphal

Imphal: Responding to specific information about the presence of some armed miscreants venturing with the intention to carryout attack on Security Forces in the area of City Convention Centre in Imphal East, security forces mobilised columns on Saturday to establish multiple Mobile Vehicle Check Posts (MVCP) in the area, said an official.

As per the official report, at around 7:30 pm security forces noticed a suspected passenger car approaching with four passengers in it. On being challenged, the miscreants got down from the car and attempted to flee into bylanes of the colony, it said.

During the operation, three miscreants were arrested by the alert troops on ground. This timely act by the troops on ground could save occurrence of a major untoward incident in the area, it added.

An Insas rifle with magazine, sixty rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, one Chinese hand grenade and one detonator were recovered from their possession.

The three arrested miscreants with weapon and ammunition has been handed over to Manipur Police, it added.
