Imphal: Ahead of Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposed 3-day Manipur visit from May 29 till June 1 and in view of prevailing unrest in the state, the Chief of Army Staff, General Manoj Pande arrived in Imphal Saturday afternoon on a two-day state visit.
The Army Chief landed at the Imphal International Airport around 4 pm. He left went to Manipur Raj Bhavan to meet with Manipur Governor, sources say.
General Manoj Pande along with Lt. General RP Kalita GOC-In- Chief called on Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan in Imphal today to discuss and deliberate over the current situation and future trajectory in order to restore normalcy at the earliest, a statement from the Raj Bhavan said.
Owing to the internal security situation in Manipur, the state administration has been helped by additional security forces to diffuse the situation by carrying out active domination of vulnerable and fringe areas. Prevention of untoward incidents has been drastically reduced with frequent round the clock deployment of the security forces.
Meanwhile, the meeting between the Army Chief and the Governor discussed about the prevailing situation and security measures which are put in place to contain/prevent any violent and major untoward incidents in the state.
The Governor has conveyed the suggestions and complaints received from various delegations of political parties, civil society organisations and victimised section of the society to the Army Chief. The Governor instructed the Army Chief to swiftly bring prevailing situation of the state to normalcy, according to the statement of the Raj Bhavan.
