Assam: 1,400 Schools lack Basics; 28,000 teacher Posts Vacant

UKHRUL, NOV 28: The state assembly of Assam was informed on Thursday (November 27) that 1,391 Lower Primary (LP) and Middle English (ME) schools presently do not have any functional drinking water or toilet facilities for the students in ‘char’ and rural areas.

27,936 teaching posts are also lying vacant, Assam’s Education Minister Ranoj Pegu added. The data was revealed by Pegu in response to a query by Congress MLA Wajed Ali Choudhary.

Ongoing document verification processes of candidates for the recruitment of 4,500 LP posts in general areas is taking place. The Secondary of Education Directorate has also carried out a recruitment exercise to appoint 9,717 teachers, Pegu stated.
