GUWAHATI (SHABD): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a series of relief measures for flood-affected people. Families of those who lost their lives in the recent floods will now be eligible for the ₹4 lakh ex gratia on the basis of a Circle Officer’s certificate, eliminating the earlier requirement of a post-mortem report. Further, the Government has decided to provide an additional ₹5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, taking the total assistance to ₹9 lakh per deceased.
The Chief Minister also said that ₹26.58 crore has been contributed to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, and the entire amount will be used for flood relief. Compensation will also be provided to families whose houses, ponds, handloom units and agricultural fields have been damaged.

The CM announced immediate financial assistance for families whose homes have been severely affected by the recent floods. Recognising that many families have returned to homes filled with mud and silt and need immediate funds to restore basic living conditions, the Government will transfer ₹15,000 directly into the bank accounts of every severely affected household.
A damage assessment survey initiated, following which financial assistance will be extended to all eligible affected families. Students who lost their educational documents in the floods will receive duplicate mark sheets and certificates free of cost, with no fees to be charged by schools, colleges, universities or SEBA. Financial assistance has also been announced for Higher Secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate students, while flood-affected schools will receive fresh funds to purchase uniforms.
In addition, Orunodoi beneficiaries in Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat will receive ₹2,500 instead of the usual ₹1,250. Originally scheduled to be disbursed from August 3, the amount will now be released from August 1.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to review the ongoing relief efforts in the wake of the Assam Floods.
The flood situation in Assam continues to remain critical. According to the latest update from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), seven districts—Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan—remain affected.
A total of 622 villages under 21 revenue circles are still inundated, affecting 3,32,639 people. Nearly 45,000 hectares of agricultural land remain submerged.
Seven bodies were recovered in the past 24 hours, taking the flood death toll in the state to 75. Relief operations are continuing through 115 relief camps and distribution centres, while 32,477 people are currently staying in 81 relief camps. Teams from the NDRF, SDRF, Police, Civil Administration, Army, Air Force, paramilitary forces and volunteer organisations are continuing rescue and relief operations.
