UKHRUL, NOVEMBER 13: Nine more people have been arrested in Assam for allegedly posting offensive content on social media related to the recent Delhi blast, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.
Reiterating a zero-tolerance stance, Sarma stated that “The Assam Police remain uncompromising against those who glorify violence.” Following the initial six arrests made on Wednesday (November 12), he revealed that 34 others across the state have been identified for similar posts.
The Chief Minister directed DGP Harmeet Singh to closely monitor online activity and take strict action against individuals spreading hatred or supporting terrorism.
“If people celebrate an act of terror where lives have been lost, it means they support terrorism, directly or indirectly,” he said, as police intensified their crackdown on objectionable social media content.
The action mirrors an earlier crackdown following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir, when nearly 100 people in Assam were arrested for inflammatory online content, including AIUDF’s Dhing MLA Aminul Islam under the National Security Act (NSA).
