The International Human Rights Association (IHRA) has demanded immediate revocation against SR Andria, General Secretary of All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) in regard to the support of District Council Bill, 2021 introduced by Hill Areas Committee terming the arrest warrant an extreme violation of Human Rights perpetrated by the N Biren Singh government.

A press release issued on Thursday by IHRA President, Mark Thangmang Haokip stated, “the Manipur government has no such rights to arrest or disturb the leaders of the student body because they are supporting the legitimate ADC Bill 2021 introduced by the HAC. The student body has not committed any anti-government policy that could lead to the destruction of the security protocols. But the government only is responsible for perpetrating the anti-hill people policy that is also a violation of the Constitutional rights of the citizens.”

It further stated, “N Biren Singh government’s ideology towards the hill is destructive in the eyes of human rights and taken as inhuman and degrading treatment. As such, the state government should refrain from committing such discrimination against public leaders by misusing the law is a grave violation of human rights and which is as well directly against Article 5 & 7 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.”

International Human Rights Association then said, “the concerned Home Department of the state is directed to withdraw or revoke the said arrest warrant order against the general secretary of ATSUM immediately and should inform action taken in this regard to IHRA through email mt.haokip02@gmail.com without fail.
