As part of the proposed agitation plans of actions, picketing of government offices was effectively carried out in Ukhrul district headquarters on Monday with complete lockdown of Mini Secretariat, ZEO Office, Council, Post office, Forest Offices, and banks.
No unwanted incidence, however, was reported.
Meanwhile, Joseph Pauline, deputy commissioner Ukhrul had left for Shirui-Khayang Phungtha road inspection along with Work Minister Biswajit and Ukhrul AC MLA Alfred Kanngam. He will return on Tuesday.
Picketing of government offices was o-opted by the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS)- the apex body of the Tangkhul students’ union.
Today’s developments in the hill districts came in the wake of the State Government’s repeated failure to conduct the Autonomous District Councils elections in the hill districts.
Following state government lukewarm responses, it had resolved to launch picketing of government offices in the hill districts starting Monday.
Coming down strongly on the Manipur state government’s deliberate derailing of ADC elections even as the body had consistently apprised the matter to the governor, HAC and the State Government using different channels like memorandums, press communique and official discourses, the visibly fuming and agitated apex bodies of the tribal students’ union had decided to voiced and made known their long pending demand by resorting to picketing of government offices and mass rallies.
As per the earlier communique issued by the ATSUM general secretary, it had proposed to launch series of mass rallies at hill districts headquarters beginning 8th April till 15 April, 2021. The first mass rallies will begin at Senapati district Head quarter which will be followed by Kangpokpi, Chandel, Ukhrul, Churachanpur and Tamenglong.
The two days picketing of government offices that began Monday in the hill districts of Manipur will conclude on Tuesday.
The apex body of the tribal student Union had urged the state government’s upteen times to fulfil the Charter of Demands made to hold the Autonomous District Councils elections in the Hill districts of Manipur.
