In the fourth medal tally for Team India at the ongoing Common Wealth Games 2022 at Birmingham, United Kingdom, Manipur’s Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam clinched silver medal in the weightlifting 55 kg category. She lifted a total of 202 kgs after successfully lifting 116 kg in her third attempt of clean and jerk in the category.
With Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam’s medal, India has won its fourth medal on day- 2 in weightlifting– Saikhom Mirabai Chanu gold in Women’s 49 kg weight category; Gururaja a bronze medal in Men’s 61 kg event; Sanket Sargar who bagged silver medal in Men’s 55 kg weightlifting event.

According to ANI, Bindyarani Devi at Birmingham said, “I’m very happy to get a silver in the first time of playing CWG. Today was my life’s best performance… gold slipped out of my hand; when I was at the podium, I wasn’t at the center; will do better next time. My next targets are national games, World Championship, Asian Games & then the 2024 Paris Olympics. I’ll do better in them,” said Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam after winning a silver medal in Women’s 55 kg weightlifting.”
Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh congratulated the second CWG 2022 medallist of the state and wrote on twitter, “Immensely proud of the profound contributions made by the Manipuri players to our great Nation.”
