Agartala: Celebrating 46 years of its foundation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a spirited programme on Sunday at its state party office here in Agartala. Marking the evolution of the party from its Jana Sangh roots to becoming the largest political organisation in the world, the event witnessed participation from top state leaders, including Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha and former Chief Minister and current Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb joined the celebration in a separate programme organized by Pratapgarh Mandal.
The event commenced with the hoisting of the party flag by BJP state President Rajib Bhattacharjee, followed by patriotic slogans and the party anthem. Also present were senior cabinet ministers including Ratan Lal Nath, Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder, and other party functionaries and workers.
While addressing the party karyakartas, Chief Minister Saha called the day “one of great significance” for BJP workers across the country. “The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a party of workers and dedication. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership since 2018 for the political and developmental transformation of Tripura. “The state’s political discourse has changed since the BJP came to power. We are now being recognised as a front-runner among Northeastern states. Roads, digital infrastructure, and healthcare — every sector is improving,” he added.
Speaking on Tripura’s budget and investment potential, the CM said, “Infrastructure is the backbone of development. That’s why the budget allocates a strong focus on it. Without it, investors won’t come, and jobs won’t be created. Our government is moving steadily in that direction.”
Meanwhile, MP Biplab Kumar Deb took the stage and delivered a blistering critique of the Communist Party, its ideology, and its historical impact on the region and the country.
“The ideology of Communism has taken the lives of lakhs of people. Just look at history. And yet, they claim to be for the poor and the workers,” Deb said, questioning the relevance of Karl Marx.
“Who was Karl Marx? Was he a labourer? Was he a farmer, a fisherman, someone who toiled in the fields? No. He was a famous industrialist. And yet, they call him the father of working-class ideology,” he added.

Taking a sarcastic tone, Deb remarked, “To become a true leader of the working class, one must be a worker. You have to understand their lives, you have to work with your hands. You cannot lead labourers by sitting in drawing rooms.”
Deb didn’t hold back while speaking about the Communists’ legacy in Tripura. “There’s still one threat left in Tripura, and it’s called Communism. They say they’ll return — let me tell you, they never will. Not in Tripura, not in any state. The last one left is Kerala, and that too will soon be free of them,” he declared.
He accused Communist leaders of deceit and destruction. “If there’s any party that carries the curse of the people, it is the Communist Party. They’ve misled poor people with lies, played with their futures, and ruined the lives of children,” Deb said, referencing the 10,323 terminated teachers case.
He added, “In Tripura, Communists ruined the lives of 10,323 youth. Similarly in West Bengal, their ideological cousin sister was born who destroyed 26,000 more. And 34,000 more are in limbo with cases still going on. This is their real legacy.”
Turning his guns on the Congress, Deb criticised the party’s leadership vacuum. “There are many parties in India, but parties alone don’t run nations—leadership does. The Communists have many unions and branches, but no leaders. A party without leadership has no future,” he said.

He mocked the Congress for promoting dynastic politics, “They have made someone the Leader of the Opposition simply because he is Sonia Gandhi’s son. Is that how leadership is chosen?”
The event concluded with resounding chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” as party workers pledged to strengthen the organisation further and gear up for upcoming electoral challenges.
