Ukhrul, September 11: As many as 53 members of the Phungyar BJP Mandal and Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Manipur have resigned en masse from the party’s primary membership, citing neglect of grassroots voices and lack of inclusiveness within the state unit.The latest political development comes just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Manipur on September 13.
The collective resignation, tendered on Thursday, was led by Ngachomni Ramshang, Special Invitee of BJP Manipur Pradesh. Alongside him, the Phungyar BJP Mandal president, Mahila Morcha president, Yuva Morcha president, Kishan Morcha president, Scheduled Tribe Morcha executive member, and 53 booth-level presidents also submitted their resignations, a statement said.

The leaders expressed “deep concern over the present state of affairs within the party,” pointing to a lack of consultation and respect for local leadership. They maintained that while their loyalty to the party’s ideology had remained unwavering, the treatment of grassroots functionaries had forced them to take this drastic step.

“We Members expressed our deep concern over the present state of affairs within the party and highlighted a lack of consultation, inclusiveness, and respect for grassroots leadership as major reasons. Our loyalty to the Party and its ideology has always been unwavering. We reaffirmed our commitment to work for the welfare of our Community and the People of Manipur,” the leaders statement said.
