Ukhrul: In recognition of the feat Solimla Jajo and Solan Jajo from Manipur’s Kamjong district had achieved in the recently concluded 54th edition of Asian Body Building and Physique Sports Championships 2022 held in Maldives, the Body Building Association, Ukhrul District felicitated the duo on Monday at Ukhrul town hall. Solimla Jajo is the first woman from the Tangkhul community to break ground and win a medal in the world of fitness.
Solimla Jajo bagged silver medal in the 165 cm senior model physique, while Solan Jajo was placed 4th position in the 160 senior model physique at the Miss Asia Women Model Physique. Both 17, they were among seven Manipur bodybuilders part of Team India at the Asian championship 2022.
Following the news of their victory, Tangkhul community erupted into jubilation and expressed their congratulations.

Khrishna Kumar, IAS, deputy commissioner, Ukhrul and Tuisem Kamkara, vice president TNL graced the event as chief guest and guest of honour. The programme was also attended by SA. Ramnganing, president TNWL, Thingreiphy, president TSL, Revd. Somi Kasomwoshi pastor UTBC and well wishers, among others.
In his speech, Krishna Kumar DC, Ukhrul congratulated the two female athletes for winning silver medal and fourth position and wished them success in their future pursuits. “With their achievements, Ukhrul has now been exposed and made known to the outside world,” Krishna Kumar said and assured his support in their future endeavours, and extended helping hands to the two young Tangkhul female athletes ahead of the World Championship 2022 in Thailand during December 2022.
Coach and instructor Royal Gymnasiums Phungreitang, L Robert Meitei, who is also an international medalist, expressed gratitude to the district administration in Ukhrul and all the supporters and well-wishers, on behalf of the BBAUD. He credited the feat achieved by Solimla and Solan to the unwavering support and prayers of the well wishers.
Robert lamented the non-responsive and step motherly treatment meted out to the two young girls by the district administration Kamjong. “Though we made series of attempts to draw DC Kamjong attention, there has been no response from his end,” he further stated.
BBAUD also expressed gratitude to Cabinet Minister Khashim Vashum for extending monetary aid of Rs 50,000 to the two young athletes.
Robert Meitei then handed over a sum of Rs 25,000 each to Solimla Jajo and Solan Jajo.
Both Solimla and Solan also took turns to share their experiences. “Ours was a mixture of happiness and sadness,” the duo recalled.

The duo was trained by the renowned bodybuilder and International medalist, L. Robert Meitei, who is also the principal of Ukhrul Central School (UCS) at Royal Gymnasium located at Phungreitang in Ukhrul headquarters.
So far, Royal Gymnasium has produced three international athletes from Moreh and three international athletes from Ukhrul.
The 54th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Competition was hosted by the Bodybuilding Association of Maldives and sanctioned by the World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation, supported by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Republic of Maldives in collaboration with the Maldives Olympic Committee.
Solimla and Solan completed their class XII from Sacred Heart Hr. Sec School and Alice Christian Hr. Sec. School, Ukhrul respectively and both came out in 2nd division.
Solan hails from Leishi village while Solimla is from Kasom in Kamjong district.
As part of the event, body show demonstration was also performed by the Royal Gymnasium Athletes.
