Central Government Should Address Root Cause of Conflict: KIM

Ukhrul, Mar 10: The Kuki Inpi Manipur stated today that the recent protests, which tragically led to the death of one Lalgouthang Singsit and inflicted severe injuries to numerous women, symbolized the deep-rooted tensions surrounding the government’s “free movement” initiative. Strongly opposing the initiative, the Kuki Inpi stated that it posed a serious threat to the delicate balance of order that is currently in place.

“Allowing the Meitei to enter Kuki-Zo areas is bound to exacerbate the ongoing conflict. Until a comprehensive political solution is reached—one that assures lasting peace and respects the aspiration of the Kuki-Zo community—the Kuki Inpi cannot accept this policy, which is viewed as a policy only to bring momentary peace,” the press note of the Kuki Inpi Manipur read.

The Kuki Inpi stated that the central government should adopt a more proactive approach to resolving the ongoing crisis, one that prioritizes justice for the affected community. Prioritising justice means addressing the root causes of the conflict and recognizing the unique grievances of the Kuki-Zo people, who have suffered greatly due to this ethnic clash.

The Kuki Inpi extended its heartfelt condolences to the grieving family of Lalgouthang Singsit, whom it called a true martyr laying down his life for the defense and well-being of his people.

“His unwavering commitment to his community highlights the spirit of sacrifice and courage that is deeply valued among the Kuki. The impact of his bravery will resonate through the generations, as his legacy serves as an inspiration for all. The Kuki Inpi proudly honors Mr. Lalgouthang Singson, whose contributions will be remembered and celebrated with the highest respect,” the Kuki Inpi said.

Further, the Kuki Inpi also expressed its deep gratitude to all members of the Kuki-Zo community, the women and student organisations for their unwavering support in responding to the clarion call of the Kuki-Zo Council. Until a satisfactory political solution is negotiated, the Kuki Inpi urges the Kuki-Zo community to remain steadfast and resolute in their stance against any governmental action perceived as detrimental to their rights and interests.
