Hek also informed that he had written a letter to the Union Education minister for his intervention into the demand of the North Eastern Hill University Students Union (NEHUSU) and Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) NEHU unit for immediate removal of the incumbent VC Prof PS Shukla and appointment of a new a VC.

Disagreeing that the centre is not taking the NEHU issue seriously, the minister said, “If they had taken the issue very lightly, they would not have replied to my letter.”
