Chandel: 1st ALT WVA Branch Sports Meet Begins

CHANDEL: The 1st Anal Lenruwl Tangpi Western Valley Area Branch Sports Meet 2026 began on Thursday at the Beru-Unopat ground in Chandel district, Manipur with 30 teams all set to compete in the disciplines of football and volleyball. While 20 men’s teams are to play both football and volleyball, 10 women’s teams will compete for the top prize in volleyball.

During the opening ceremony held at the Beru Unopat Community Hall, guest of the event Rd. Amon Anal, L/Hav., encouraged the teams to play fairly and with discipline. He said sports was the best way to keep oneself physically and mentally healthy and fit.

Bs. Rejonson, chairman, WVACA, exhorted the teams for a fair and peaceful play. He said health was a gift that should be taken seriously and maintained well. Sports are the best way for such, he added.

Jasha Delecson, president of the ALTWVA Branch, welcomed all the teams and called for a fair play to build brotherhood among the teams. He said this was the first time the branch had organised such an event adding that they plan to continue too.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Phs Koreng Anal, Hon. Naik Subedar and Ps Monahring Anal, Sub. 16 Assam Regt. as special guests.

During the first match of the day, women’s volleyball match between Beru Unopat Youth Club and Beru Khudam, the former came out victorious winning the match in 3-1 sets.

In the second match of the day, men’s volleyball match between Beru Unopat Youth Club and ALT GHq, the former won 3-0 sets.

On Friday, Khambathel YC will take on Modi YC in a women’s volleyball match, the first match of the day at 11 AM. The second match of the day will be between Chandel Christian YC and Tokpaching YC while Maribung YC will take on Beru Wangkhera in the Men’s volleyball.

In football, Unopat Warriors FC will take on Thungcheng YC.
