Ukhrul, Feb 24: In a case of grievances against forest authorities, a business association in Chandel has expressed strong disapproval against the Divisional Forest Officer of Chandel. Accusing the Divisional Forest Officer of levying unaccounted fees, the Unique Business Association Chandel has demanded the attention of the relevant authorities besides replacing the officer.

In a press note, the Unique Business Association accused the Divisional Forest Officer of imposing additional and unaccounted fees for routine services despite paying the required amount as per the receipt issued by the Forest Office, causing a financial burden on individuals and organizations.

“This illegal fee collection has led to a complete loss of trust in the current Divisional Forest Officer, who is even charging for transporting Stone Border from New Wangparal for personal and local use,” the business association said.

Stating this, the association has urged the Forest Department to investigate the matter transparently. Further, it also urged for corrective action by designating a different officer who is just, dutiful, and can understand the needs and the plight of the communities under Chandel Forest Division by ensuring transparency in financial matters and providing clear justification for any charges levied.

The association further appeals to higher authorities to conduct an independent audit of the department’s activities and take necessary steps to improve accountability and efficiency.

Additionally, it stated that the Forest Department’s efficient functioning was vital for their community and that their transparency must be a top priority. We hope this matter will be promptly addressed for our environment and future generations, it added.
