Chandel: District-Level National Deworming Day Launched

Chandel, Mar 13: Chandel launched the first round of District-Level National Deworming Day on Thursday at Japhou Upper Primary School, Japhou Village, organised by the District Health Society, Chandel.

The launching programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner Chandel, L. Nandakumar Singh, IAS as Chief Guest, Yumnam Hemchandra Singh, ZEO Chandel, Mina Nula, Inspector of Schools, ADC Chandel, and Martha Saka, Supervisor ICDS Cell, Chandel as Guest of Honours and CMO Chandel, Dr. Joyson Matthew Monsang as the Functional President.

Giving the keynote address, Dr. RD. Anna Niwarhring, DNO for Child Health Chandel, spoke on the effects of parasitic worms, the importance of hygiene, and treatments available. She emphasized that the campaign aims to reduce worm infections in children and raise awareness about deworming. She further stressed on improving sanitation, practicing good hygiene, and consuming safe food and water.

ZEO Chandel Yumnam Hemchandra Singh stated that a mop up round will be held on March 20 for students who missed the Thursday event. It will be held in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and child development and Ministry of School Education. The campaign will be carried out across schools, Angawadi Centres (AWCs) and health units throughout the district, he said.

CMO Chandel stated that mass deworming campaign of children is planned to reduce the harm caused by Soil transmitted helminths (STH) and delivered a health talk on the effects of worm infections and highlighted the importance of deworming, hygiene and sanitation. He further mentioned that the albendazole tablet will be administered to children from the age group of 1-19 years in all the schools, Angawadi Centres and health units. 

Concluding the programme, the presidium members along with the teachers and staff from ICDS and Health Department Chandel administered the required dose of Albendazole tablets to all the eligible students.
