Chandel: The 25th Years Silver Jubilee Celebration of Changnhe Sanuw Emhar Ruh (CSER) Heibunglok village, Chandel was held on Friday under the theme ‘Culture Bring Unity’ at the Changnhe village school compound. The objective of the celebration was to invite all the daughters of Changnhe village married to outsiders for a love feast known as ‘leenchang themhin’ in Monsang as embedded in their culture. Leenchang themhin in Monsang tradition reinforces love and re-union among sisters and daughters for a love feast though married to different village or community in the past. Since 1997 the annual get-together of the women society have been held in various ways, sometimes in the form of picnic or excursion. This year is focused on re-union with daughters of the village married to different communities outside. The programe started with a warm welcome note from Sanuw Ng. Meninglei, Convenor, jubilee committee.
Sanuw Th. Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson, (i/c) Manipur State Commission for Women and Sanuw Th. Tiberrose Monsang, an entrepreneur were the chief guest and guest of honour respectively. Speaking on gender equality and to empower women, Tiningpham emphasized that “women need the support of men as much as men need the support of women. Together we can grow”. Th. Tiberrose appreciated Changnhe women society for organizing such historic and meaningful celebration.
A monument erected to mark the historic occasion of CSER silver Jubilee was unveiled by Upa W. Molali, Pastor, Changnhe Baptist Church. And a blessing prayer led by Sapa Ng. Bengamshing, asst. pastor CBC.
Release of jubilee souvenir by the chief guest was followed by cultural program including presentation of Monsang folksong, love song, traditional attire show, choreography and jubilee feast much to the delight of all the participants.
The village men folks headed by the village chief Upa Ts. Warnu appreciated the program committee for taking such initiative and bringing back daughters of the village for a common get-together and fellowship on occasions like this. It is simply beautiful, he said. Gift presentation to all the visiting daughters and prize distribution were handed to participants of the cultural items. Few hubbies giving company to their wives by virtue of long distance were delighted to be part of such occasions and appreciated the organizing committee and leaders of the village for giving such space to women and extending moral support. Changnhe daughters married to outsiders re-visiting their village along with their children for a love feast with the village elders, parents, relatives and love ones makes the theme of the celebration ‘culture brings unity, very apt commented a guest coming from a far distant place. It makes the occasion beautiful and memorable one.
